Saturday's Ryman South action review

By David Watters

Folkestone Invicta maintained their thirteen-point lead at the top of the Ryman South table on Saturday after winning 2-1 at The Fullicks Stadium against lowly Walton Casuals, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

But they were given a jolt when Gabrial Odunaike gave the visitors the lead five minutes before half-time. Ian Draycott pulled the leaders level 11 minutes after the break and then Harry Smith scored what proved to be the winner with 20 minutes remaining.

Worthing, Guernsey and Herne Bay all won to maintain their top four slots, but it wasn`t a good day for the chasing pack.

The Rebels beat Chatham Town 2-0 at Woodside Road with goals from Omar Bugiel from the penalty spot on the hour-mark and then Ben Pope 17 minutes from time.

The Channel Islanders beat mid-table Whyteleafe 2-1 at home in front of another excellent crowd of 829 with Craig Young giving them a 16th minute lead. But Sam Clayton equalised on 34 minutes and the big crowd had to wait until two minutes from time for top scorer Ross Allen`s winner.

Herne Bay had a much more comfortable 4-1 win at Stompond Lane against lowly Walton & Hersham.

However, after a goalless opening 45 minutes, the Swans gave their visitors two own goals with goalkeeper Borja Leoches Teixeira fumbling in the opener on 49 minutes and then Charlie Slocombe slicing a cross past Leoches Teixeira three minutes later.

Lee Browning made it 3-0 to Bay just past the hour-mark and, after Gareth Chendlik had reduced the arrears on 67 minutes, Connor Sanders made it 4-1 with eight minutes to go.

Elsewhere, none of the chasing trio of Dorking Wanderers, Faversham Town and Carshalton Athletic managed a win.

Fifth-placed Dorking were beaten 3-1 at home by mid-table Hythe Town, who were gifted a deflected 13th minute Tony Oakes own goal.

Jack Harris eventually doubled the Kent side`s advantage just shy of the hour-mark and, after Tom Tolfrey had pulled one back for the hosts on 65 minutes, Alfie May added Hythe`s third a minute from the end.

Faversham lost by the same scoreline at King George`s Field against a Corinthian-Casuals side who are now right in the play-off race.

Josh Uzun`s spot-kick gave Casuals a 15th minute lead that Shaun Okojie added to just before the break. Four minutes after the interval Warren Morgan made it 3-0 to the hosts, and all the Kent outfit could muster in reply was a 77th minute Renford Tenyue effort.

Carshalton at least managed a point against Surrey neighbours South Park.

Tommy Bradford gave the Robins a great start with a fifth minute penalty conversion. And South Park missed a spot-kick three minutes later when Robins` keeper Luke Colquhoun saved Kieran Lavery`s effort. But Lavery made up for that miss with a stoppage time equaliser.

Those results were good news for Hastings United, who moved into eighth place, just two points off the top five, after securing a 2-1 win at the Belmont Ground against bottom-markers Whitstable Town.

But they left it very late after falling behind to a neat Stuart King lob in the 37th minute. Sam Adams finally pulled the visitors level with only eight minutes to go and then then Sean Ray broke Oystermen hearts with an injury-time winner.

To make matters worse for Whitstable, the team immediately above them in the table, Chipstead, won 3-1 at third-bottom Peacehaven & Telscombe.

Saidou Khan after 14 minutes, Sam Charles right on half-time and then, after Jack Funnell had given Haven hope with an 86th minute reply, Charlie Carter in stoppage time were the Chips marksmen.

Stafforde Palmer bagged a brace in the 48th and 53rd minutes as Molesey won the mid-table duel at the Jubilee Field against Three Bridges, while Ramsgate`s top five hopes took a blow as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Imperial Fields against Tooting & Mitcham United.

Chace O`Neill gave the Terrors a 20th minute lead that Jake Baxter eventually added to from the spot seven minutes into the second period. Baxter grabbed the third from open play with 10 minutes remaining.
