Saturday's Ryman South action review

By David Watters

A goal deep into time added on at the end of the game pushed Folkestone Invicta twelve points clear at the top of the Ryman South table on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Ashley Miller was the Invicta hero, scoring in the third minute of injury-time to finally kill off visiting Three Bridges at the Fullicks Stadium and collect all three points.

Worthing lost second spot when they were beaten 2-0 at Woodside Road by a Guernsey side who are now fifth.

A crowd of 448 saw much-wanted striker Ross Allen notch his 16th and 17th goals of the season after 14 and 39 minutes to seal victory for the Channel Islanders.

Herne Bay are now in second place after winning 3-1 at Colston Avenue against fellow top five contenders Carshalton Athletic.

The home side took an early ninth minute lead through Mickel Miller but Bay went into the break 2-1 ahead after Harry Brown bagged a brace – the first after 26 minutes from the penalty spot and the second seven minutes later. Elliott Cutt finally killed off the home side with Bay`s third in the very last minute of normal time.

Fourth-placed Ramsgate suffered a 3-2 defeat at the Pilot Field against lower mid-table Hastings United.

The Rams came into the match on a run of six games without defeat but were behind as early as the fifth minute to a Sam Cole effort. Zac Attwood doubled Hastings` lead on 27 minutes and it wasn`t until the hour-mark that the visitors managed to reply through Ian Pulman.

Sub Jack Harris made the points safe for Hastings with a third in the 88th minute, although there was still time for Joe Taylor to pull a second back for the Rams.

In contrast to Ramsgate, bottom-markers Whitstable Town went into their match with Peacehaven & Telscombe on a run of eleven games without a win.

But that finally ended at the Belmont. A thriller on the north Kent coast saw Charlie Smith give the Oystermen a 13th minute lead and Sam Berwick double that 10 minutes later. Jamie Brotherton reduced the deficit from the spot just before the break but a brace from Dean Grant in the 64th and 72nd minutes took the home side 4-1 in front.

But, perhaps because of their bad run, they allowed Haven to pull two more back through Allieu Secko after 79 minutes and Maxime Agnoly three minutes later. However, the Oystermen defended desperately in the final few minutes to hang on and enjoy that winning feeling again.

Whitstable, along with second-bottom Chipstead, still look doomed though as they are thirteen and twelve points respectively behind fourth-bottom Peacehaven.

Chipstead lost 2-1 at High Road to Hythe Town, despite breaking the deadlock through Sol Pinnock from the spot in the 56th minute. Alfie May equalised for in-form Town in the 76th minute and Craig Thompson won it for the visitors with less than two minutes remaining.

Third-bottom Sittingbourne pulled to within two points of Peacehaven after winning 2-1 at Woodstock Park to Chatham Town.

The Chats led at the break, courtesy of a 31st minute Austin Edwards effort. Miles Cornwell levelled on the hour-mark and Bourne won it when Jono Richardson netted 17 minutes from the end.

Whyteleafe dented Molesey`s play-off hopes with a 2-0 home win in which Jason Henry opened the scoring right on half-time. Jamie Byatt killed Molesey off with a second for `Leafe two minutes from time.

Dorking Wanderers also had their hopes of mounting a play-off challenge dented with a 3-1 home defeat to Tooting & Mitcham United.

The home side led at the break, thanks to a 41st minute Anthony Oakes goal. But once Jordan Wilson levelled on 56 minutes, the lively Terrors looked like winning, but it wasn’t until the final couple of minutes when Kurtis Pykes and Wilson again grabbed the visitors` goals.

In contrast, South Park rekindled their top five challenge with a best-of-five win at Stompond Lane against Walton & Hersham.

Jack McLeod gave the visitors the lead after 35 minutes and Jack Richmond headed into his own goal to double South Park`s advantage a minute before half-time. Aaron Watson then bagged a brace in the 59th and 69th minutes to pull the Swans back on level terms, only for Jerry O`Sullivan to win it for the visitors with 11 minutes to go.

Faversham Town are now sixth after seeing off East Grinstead Town 2-1 at the Shepherd Neame Stadium.

The visitors shocked the Lilywhites by taking an 18th minute lead through Yacine Gnahore. But Charley Robertson equalised from the spot after 35 minutes and Stuart King`s 62nd minute effort eventually proved to be enough to win if for Faversham.
