Saturday's Ryman South action review

By David Watters

There looks to be very little to prevent Folkestone Invicta from winning the Ryman League Division One South title, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

They comfortably saw off play-off chasing Corinthian-Casuals 4-0 at the Fullicks Stadium on Saturday and are sixteen points clear at the top with only seven games remaining.

In front of a crowd of 405, a goal in each half from leading scorer Ian Draycott and second half efforts from Ronnie Dolan and Frankie Chappell sealed Invicta`s win against an in-form Casuals outfit.

Dorking Wanderers, Worthing, Herne Bay and Hythe Town currently occupy the play-off places and all-bar Bay won on Saturday.

They lost 4-2 at Dorking, whose Tom Tolfrey bagged a brace in the ninth minute from the spot and on 49 minutes.

James Turner had pulled Bay level right on the stroke of half-time but by the time Danny Walder scored their second from the spot in stoppage time, Wanderers were already 4-1 up after goals from Dean Gunner on 65 minutes and Jake Beecroft on 87.

Third-placed Worthing were made to work hard for their 1-0 win at The Belmont against bottom-markers Whitstable Town, Lloyd Dawes` penalty two minutes into the second period proving decisive in the end.

Hythe were 2-1 winners at mid-table Whyteleafe, who led through Sam Clayton`s 19th minute effort right until 17 minutes from the end when Vernon Francis put through his own goal. Ben Wilson then won it for Hythe in injury-time.

Faversham Town, Hastings United, Ramsgate and Molesey all have chances to mount a top five challenge, and all-bar Hastings achieved victories on Saturday.

The Sussex outfit lost 3-1 at Colston Avenue against Carshalton Athletic, whose Jordan Higgs bagged a brace in the 72nd and 90th minutes after Tommy Bradford had given the Robins a 17th minute lead that Billy Medlock cancelled out in the 66th minute.

Faversham beat relegation-threatened Chipstead 2-1 at the Shepherd Neame Stadium, coming back from being a 72nd minute Derek Tieku goal down to win, thanks to Charley Robertson two minutes later and then, bizarrely, in stoppage time when Town keeper Will Godman`s long free-kick somehow found its way into the back of the net.

Ramsgate comfortably saw off fourth-bottom East Grinstead Town 4-0 at Southwood, thanks to a Kane Rowland hat-trick in the ninth, 19th and 55th minutes – Nick Treadwell adding the other in the 15th minute.

And Molesey saw off Chatham Town 2-1 at home, thanks to Rob Sheridan after eight minutes and Stafforde Palmer two minutes after the break, with Khari Oriogun replying on the hour-mark for the Chats.

Second-bottom Peacehaven & Telscombe picked up a point from their home game against Tooting & Mitcham United, but are still five points behind third-bottom Walton & Hersham, who lost at mid-table Three Bridges.

Antonio Simeane gave the Terrors a 55th minute lead but Haven rescued a point through Derek Ubah 11 minutes from the end while Hakeem Adelakun`s 21st minute effort proved enough for Bridges against the Swans.

Elsewhere on Saturday a crowd of 804 saw Guernsey maintain their good home form with a 3-0 success against Sittingbourne, courtesy of another brace from Ross Allen to take his tally to 27 to date, and one from veteran Ryan Zico-Black, while Kofi Quartey`s ninth minute goal proved enough for South Park to win at Walton Casuals.
