Saturday's Ryman South review

Ryman League South Division

If points on the board are more important than games in hand then Chipstead will be more than happy with their afternoon’s work on Saturday when all but four sides had the day off in Ryman South thanks to wet weather, writes Steve Barton.

Following seven games without a victory, Chips have now won two on the bounce, their 3-1 home win over Horsham following on from a 2-0 success away at Ramsgate the previous Saturday.

All of the goals were scored in the first half with Dan Moody and a Will Turl brace giving the Chips the advantage before Tony Nwachukwu netted a 43rd minute penalty for the Hornets.

Protests following the third goal saw player-manager Gary Charman sent from the dug-out for taking his complaints too far. Chipstead are now five points off the drop zone but the sides below them have played at least four games less. Horsham are one place above Chipstead in 18th position.

In the only other game to beat the weather Leatherhead moved to within five points of leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe with a 2-1 win at Tooting & Mitcham United.

The Tanners fourth consecutive win was secured by Jamie Coyle with 16 minutes left on the clock after Ian Draycott has put them ahead of the half hour mark before Sol Pinnock equalised for the Terrors on the stroke of half-time.
