Shot of the Season 21-22: Kev Lamb

We’ve had a magnificent Pitching In Isthmian season, one which has been illustrated and enriched by the work of a number of brilliant photographers, who have recorded it for posterity. Kev Lamb of Lambpix brings us his very favourite image of the season.

• When was the image taken (match, event, etc)?

The picture was taken at the end of the Aveley vs Tilbury fixture on the 18th April 2022, this was the match that secured Aveley’s Pitching In Isthmian North League Championship win.

• Why is it important to you?

It is important to me as this was my first full season with Aveley FC- and the picture shows the emotion of the players having battled through the season to gain promotion, especially after the defeat to Hashtag two games before which halted their undefeated run. To be part of the celebrations was a superb feeling.

• How and why did you begin taking photographs at football matches?

As a sports photographer I cover Motorsport and Ice Hockey predominantly and was looking to find something else to cover, Aveley were looking for a photographer and my friend Ricky Judd (Kitman at Aveley) contacted me via Facebook, I have been involved in football in various guises throughout the years and love the sport so it was an opportunity not to be missed.

• What are your hopes for the forthcoming season?

I hope to continue to provide photographic coverage for Aveley next season and to develop my skills, I would also like to cover other games if I am not travelling and hope to get some coverage for the Non-League Paper.
