Shot of the Season: Andy Schofield

By Ian Townsend

We asked our fabulous photographers to pick their favourite photograph of the Pitching In Isthmian campaign, and explain why it’s important to them. Andy is the man with a camera- and much more- at Whitehawk.

When was the image taken (match, event, etc)?

Pitching In Isthmian South East Play Off Final. Our captain Rob ‘Chief’ O’Toole holds the trophy after securing promotion to the Isthmian Premier at the end of the season.

Why is it important to you?

Chief was our leader on the pitch, but after his lovely Dad had a stroke and sadly passed away mid-season, he missed a few games. When Chief returned, the lads had that little bit extra impetus to pull together as a group. This picture sums up his delight in adding yet another promotion to his long list of achievements. His Dad would have been very proud.

Where can we find the rest of your work?

How and why did you begin taking photographs at football matches?

Nobody was doing the photography, so I started doing bits and pieces to liven up the website and programme. I now take it more seriously and appreciate the help I’ve had from others who are more experienced. I much prefer the proximity to the action to sitting in the stand. Our local paper, the Brighton Argus, uses a lot of my pictures, which is good for the club, as we have Brighton & Hove Albion’s Premier League success to compete with on the sports pages.

What are your hopes for the forthcoming season?

I hope the club can establish themselves back at step 3. We’ll miss a lot of the friends we made in the South East League, but we can look forward to local games against Lewes, Hastings and Horsham, as well as going back to Bognor.
