Shot of the Season: Max English

By Ian Townsend

We asked our fabulous photographers to pick their favourite photograph of the Pitching In Isthmian campaign, and explain why it’s important to them. Max had many shots to pick from, as he photographs South East champs Chatham Town

When was the image taken (match, event, etc)?

This photo was from the 1st of April- Chatham Town v Whitehawk.

Why is it important to you?

It was the closest call of the season for me- and I was glad I was able to capture the near destruction of my equipment! It was great to be able to share this photo and be able to show the players emotions as the ball came my way.

Where can we find the rest of your work?

My photos can be found on twitter @max_ephotos
Or on Instagram @max.e_automotive
All match photos are uploaded to Flickr @max.ephotography

How and why did you begin taking photographs at football matches?

I’ve been a Chatham fan since I was little, and I picked up photography during lockdown. I started taking my camera to games around December time and started sending the photos over to the club, then I was given a high vis jacket and the rest has been history. Being able to cover as many home and away games as possible has helped me learn and develop, and contributed to my college work experience.

What are your hopes for the forthcoming season?

I want to cover home and away once again, but I also want to develop my skills and keep improving my photos for myself and the club. The staff and the players have been incredible and I’m thankful that I can help capture the season one photo at a time.
