Spurs start defence at the dozen

Boux Avenue Cup holders Tottenham Hotspur Ladies started their trophy defence with a 12-0 win at Whyteleafe after being drawn away at Church Road in the first round of the Ryman League women's cup competition.

Worthing and Enfield Town are also through after knocking out Harlow Town and Tooting & Mitcham United respectively this week following the draw for the first round of the competition, lifted last year by Spurs when they defeated Charlton Athletic Ladies on penalties at Cheshunt's Theobalds Lane, pictured.

Godalming Town's Greater London League Division Two South side host Herne Bay on Tuesday night in the final first round tie while beaten finalists and 2015 winners Charlton received a bye into the second round along with Burgess Hill Town, Tonbridge Angels and West Ham United.

Having hit 10 against West Ham in the first round of their defence of the FA Women's Premier League Cup this month, Spurs ran up a dozen against Surrey County League Whyteleafe Ladies in defence of the Boux Avenue Ryman Women's Cup. Last season's tenth final since Staines Town won the inaugural competition back in 2007 also saw a first for a Ryman League fixture with four female officials taking charge for the first time.
