Stoke and Marlow boost their promotion chances

By Ian Townsend

Two games, two wins for our Play Off chasers

Basingstoke Town opened up a four point lead over the sides completing for fifth place, and also ensured that the gap between second and fifth was closed to just one point. Stoke did so by delivering a hard-fought win over in-form Guernsey, and they were aided by a second half brace from Conor Lynch, the striker moving to twenty one goals for the season.

One of the sides in hot pursuit of a top five finish are Marlow, and they are far from out of the picture after picking up three points at Ashford Town. There was only one goal in the game, and it went to Khalid Simmo after seventeen minutes, a chip over the keeper. That win sees them end the night in seventh place, four points behind Basingstoke, Bedfont Sports and Hanwell Town, and five points behind Chertsey Town. They play Basingstoke and Uxbridge in their next two matches, which will provide the best possible test to their promotion credentials.
