Stow and the E’s warm up Greens Meadow

By Ian Townsend

Four goals shared between Stowmarket Town and Enfield

Either Stowmarket is at the centre of a yet-to-be-discovered geothermal zone, or all credit to the ground staff at Stowmarket Town, who managed somehow to ensure that Greens Meadow was the only ground in the league with a grass pitch to get a game on last night! It was an important game, too, as bottom of the table Town welcomed the side two places above them, Enfield.

Stow didn’t have a win all season, whilst the travelling E’s had one win and seven defeats from their previous nine, so we really didn’t expect a classic- but the one hundred and fifty seven thermal-clad folks who turned out to watch were rather well entertained.

The hosts have been delivering increasingly impressive performances of late despite still searching for a win, so it was perhaps not a surprise when they went ahead on seventeen minutes, Bobby Rea -who was later named Man of the Match by sponsor MAW Plumbing Services and is pictured- popping up to get the opener on seventeen minutes. Stow held that lead until nine minutes after the break, Adam Vyse scoring his first E’s goal and getting the equaliser, and then it was the visitors who took control, Frankie Franz making it two-one twelve minutes later. Stowmarket hit back fifteen minutes from time, and Ewan Gordon-Clement made it two-two, which is exactly how it ended.

Stow are seven points from safety but show no signs of giving up the fight, whilst Enfield are seventeenth, eleven points ahead of their hosts.
