Stripes hit the heights

A dramatic finish sees Invicta preserve their 100% record

We had only one match in the BetVictor Isthmian League last night, and it came at Hayes Lane, where supporters were served up entertainment galore- with five goals including a late, late winner.

Cray Wanderers began their return to the Premier Division with a goalless draw at Kingstonian on Saturday, whilst their opponents, Folkestone Invicta, had begun the new season the way they'd ended the last, by looking rather impressive, this time in defeating Worthing. They began match two in similar form, and on this occasion Jerson Dos Santos, who had taken more than an hour to score their first goal against the Mackerel Men, took only three minutes to get his name on the scoresheet, intercepting a wayward Wands pass before burying his shot past Lewis Carey.

Wanderers were not downhearted, however, and by half time they were level, a shot from Andre Coker finding the bottom corner. Coker was at it again shortly after the restart, putting the home side ahead- although there might have been a slight deflection on his effort. Wands fans must have been dreaming of that first three points s the match ended its last ten minutes, but that man Jerson got in the way once more, scoring his third goal of the season nine minutes from time- and apparently it was a beauty.

Invicta were now on top, but the ninety minute mark came and went without further breakthrough, and it seemed honours would be shared. Johan Ter Horst had other ideas, however, and two minutes into added time his shot from inside the box sealed a win for the visitors.

Invicta are one of only three sides with a 100% record after our two opening fixtures, and sit in between the other two, East Thurrock United remaining first and Haringey Borough dropping to third. Wands are in seventeenth place, and host Corinthian-Casuals on Saturday, whilst Folkestone will bring Leatherhead to the seaside.
