The battle for the Play Off places continues

By Ian Townsend

Bracknell have a week off, but we’ve got six sides below them battling for four places. It’s our Pitching In Isthmian South Central preview.

With a twenty one point lead with seven matches to go, it’s only a matter of time before Bracknell Town are confirmed as Champions- perhaps as soon as next weekend. The tussle below them shows no sign of slowing down, however, with four points between the next five clubs and Marlow another four points further back.

Our big match sees third host second as Uxbridge welcome Chertsey Town. An Uxbridge win would virtually seal Bracknell’s title by anything other than the barest of mathematics, but the points are critical to both sides as neither is anything like guaranteed a Play Off place. The Curfews are on a five match unbeaten run, whilst their hosts got back to winning ways in midweek after three without a victory. A win would take Uxbridge level on points with their opponents, a two goal win would take them above the Curfews on goal difference.

Hanwell Town, in fourth, play in Guernsey on Sunday, whilst fifth place Bedfont Sports host Marlow, in seventh. Sports have only two defeats from their last ten and won six-nil last time out; whilst Marlow have seen their play off hopes falter alarmingly, taking only nine points from their last thirty, form which has seen them slip four points behind their opponents.

Basingstoke Town, in sixth, have the same number of points as the Geordies and Sports, and travel to face Tooting & Mitcham United. The Terrors find themselves in an unexpected relegation battle, in sixteenth place, and without a win from their last ten matches; whilst Stoke have lost only twice during that period. The last time they met they delivered a five goal thriller, the side from Hampshire emerging victorious.

Binfield, in eighth, are thirteen points behind the side in fifth so it is unlikely to be their year, but it has been a steady and occasionally spectacular start to their Isthmian career. The Moles are on the road to Thatcham Town, who have newfound confidence after two decent results in a row. The Moles, however, are on a run which has seen them lose only two of their last ten, although they did draw five of them!

South Park welcome Northwood. The Woods saw their magnificent run of away victories come to an end against champions elect Bracknell last time out, so will be hoping to start another; whilst the Sparks have lost only two of their last nine fixtures and will be full of confidence- and, we believe, reinforced. Watch the website for further details.

Chipstead, in eleventh, host Westfield- the latter not yet entirely out of danger. The Chips are a mid table side in made table form, with fifteen points from the last thirty available, but have had some fine moments this season; whilst Field have taken only nine points from their last ten matches and have drawn ten of their twenty seven matches so far, the most in the Division.

Finally, Sutton Common Rovers welcome Chalfont St Peter in a crucial battle at the wrong end. A win for Rovers will put them six points ahead of their second bottom visitors, whilst a Saints win might see the two swap places in the table. Rovers have looked improved of late, with only one defeat from their last four, whilst the Saints have had their moments, but not enough of them.
