The Moles hope to continue digging their escape tunnel!

Binfield head to Badshot Lea…well, Slough…hoping to once more narrow the gap between themselves and safety

Pitching In Isthmian South Central has the latest episode of the Moles great escape this evening, as Binfield travel to Slough Town to take on Badshot Lea. This is the second home match this week the Baggies have moved to Arbour Park, and on Tuesday night they were within seconds of defeating Hanworth Villa before a last-gasp equaliser- whilst at the same time the Moles were defeating Sutton Common Rovers to close the gap on third bottom Chipstead to seven points, which sounds much smaller when you consider that Binfield have three games in hand.

At this point, relying entirely on the maths, any side from fifteenth place Northwood downwards can’t count themselves safe- although it seems unlikely that the Woods, or Sutton Common Rovers a place behind them, will get caught up in the scrap to stay up. At the very bottom, Corinthian-Casuals are eleven points from safety with a maximum of fifteen on offer, with matches against two of their relegation rivals- Ashford Town and Binfield to come. Binfield have a maximum of eighteen points on offer and will finish with four home matches in a row, but- as mentioned- have that seven point margin to make up, whilst third bottom Chipstead have only three games left to ensure their survival, home matches against Hanworth Villa and Thatcham Town and a last day trip to play off hopefuls Southall. Fourth bottom Ashford Town have an eight point lead over Binfield but have played two games more, and have home matches against Casuals and promotion chasing Westfield, as well as trips to Hanworth and Met Police to come, whilst Guernsey are two points better off- and ten more than Binfield- having played one game more. The Green Lions saw last night’s match against Hartley Wintney postponed because fog delayed The Row’s inbound flight, which means that match needs to be somehow rescheduled in a run-in that sees them also host Binfield, Southall and Northwood- and travel to Raynes Park Vale. Met Police are eleven points above the drop zone having played two games more than Binfield and have four matches remaining, Thatcham Town and Ashford Town at home, Raynes Park Vale and Ascot United away.

The Moles have won two of their last three and seem to be full of confidence as they approach the most critical few weeks of their season, but they need victory tonight if the outcome of their season isn’t to be removed from their hands, as although a point would leave them six behind with two games in hand their goal difference is much, much worse than that of their rivals. The Baggies have only one defeat from five, although have drawn their last two two-two! Tonight’s 'hosts' won their first meeting of the season by three goals to nil, although all of the goals arrived in the last nine minutes.
