Three postponed, one moved…

...but we still have plenty of Pitching In Isthmian and Velocity Cup football for you tonight

Protesters on the Dartford crossing have put paid to three of our Pitching In Isthmian Premier matches this evening, Bognor v Bowers, Lewes v Aveley and Herne Bay v Billericay all biting the dust. And then there were two!

Corinthian-Casuals look for a first win since the opening day as they welcome Folkestone Invicta- at Fetcham Grove, Leatherhead. The fallen tree has now been removed from Casuals King George’s Field, but the damage remains, and repairs will need to be made before their home ground is fit for use once more. Invicta have to begin to repair their league campaign, which has seen them suffer three consecutive defeats whilst perhaps distracted by their cup heroics. Last season saw the Kent side take four points from their two encounters.

Wingate & Finchley, one point ahead of Casuals at the wrong end of the table, continue that search for their first win as they entertain Hastings United. The Blues have managed to draw six of their ten matches but have yet to take three points from anyone, whilst the last four matches for United have ended one-nil- three times in their favour. A win for the Blues will take them out of the bottom four, a win for the visitors will lift them to eighth, one point behind the top five.

Into the Pitching In isthmian North, and Gorleston, buoyed by their first win on Saturday, welcome Stowmarket Town. The visitors are in fine form with an unbeaten run in all competitions stretching back eight matches- and another win will put them firmly into the top five, perhaps as high as third.

Another side in form, AFC Sudbury, are on the road to Hullbridge Sports- the first side to take a point from leaders Lowestoft. The yellows remain unbeaten and have as many as five games in hand over the sides above them- and another three points tonight will probably take them into the top five. Sports have stopped being pushovers, however, and have only one defeat in their last five.

Two more sides with top five pretentions meet at the Simarco Stadium, as Witham Town welcome Heybridge Swifts. Town have gone four matches without a win across all competitions, whilst Swifts lost their first league match of the season on Saturday and will hope to quickly bounce back. Both meetings last season ended in two-two draws.

Pitching In Isthmian South East has two matches. Chatham Town and VCD Athletic out their promotion pretentions to the test as fourth welcomes second. The Chats know that a win will take them above their visitors, and they are six league matches unbeaten without a defeat since the opening day. Vickers have also been in fine form, taking thirteen points from their last fifteen- including wins over Sheppey, Beckenham and Sevenoaks and a draw with leaders Ramsgate.

Beckenham Town will hope to get back on track after a trouncing at the hands of National League Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday. If Becks can quickly get that defeat out of their system at Hythe Town tonight they could climb as high as third, and whilst it’s sad that their cup run is over it has quite obviously proved a distraction of late. The Cannons are five points behind their visitors in fifteenth, and have gone four games in League and Cups without a win.

There are a number of matches in the Velocity Cup. Basingstoke Town welcome Binfield in an all South Central clash, and we have two more of those as South Park Reigate welcome Ashford Town and Walton & Hersham entertain Northwood.

South East sides Chichester City and Haywards Heath Town meet in cathedral city (that’s refers to Chichester, not to cheese), whilst East Grinstead Town welcome South Central side Leatherhead. At the other end of the A264 Three Bridges welcome Sutton Common Rovers, and we have an all-North clash as Great Wakering Rovers travel to take on Tilbury at Chadfields.

We’ll have a round up of these fixtures in the morning.
