Thursday Night Football

We’ve matches in Pitching In Isthmian Premier and South Central this evening- and the Step Four fixtures have rather a lot riding on them

Pitching In Isthmian Premier has a match from the Lantern Stadium, Potters Bar Town and Canvey Island looking to give their fans something to shout about for the second time this week.

The Scholars got back to winning ways with victory over Haringey Borough on Tuesday night, whilst the Gulls finally gave their fans something to sing about, hitting champions Hornchurch for four. Town defeated Canvey four-one when the sides met at the seaside in December, goals from Alieu Njie, Brandon Adams and Temi Babalola doing the damage. The last eleven meetings, however, have five Canvey wins and three for the Scholars.

Our three Pitching In Isthmian South Central fixtures have implications at both ends of the table. At the top, third place Leatherhead are on the road to take on mid table Badshot Lea, the Tanners looking to ensure that they take home advantage into the Play Off Semi-Final- and, of course, if they can finish in second place, potentially into the Final. Leatherhead haven’t played since April 6th, a match they lost at Southall, and which ended a six match winning streak, whilst the Baggies have played more matches than they would have liked of late, mainly catching up on games which had been postponed earlier in the season. Since the Tanners last played, the Baggies have played four times, all at home, and this is the fifth of six consecutive home matches.

The first match between the sides at Fetcham Grove this season saw Badshot Lea come from behind to win two-one.

At the other end of the table, second bottom Binfield welcome Northwood. The Moles have had a remarkable revival over recent weeks, and another win tonight would lift them out of the bottom two at the expense of Chipstead, only one defeat from six giving them real hope of survival when for most of the campaign there was none.

The Woods are almost safe, but with only three wins- and five defeats- from their last ten are anything but consistent. They’ve already taken on the Moles three times this season, and are unbeaten, knocking them out of the FA Cup after a replay and winning four-one in the league, although these matches were more than seven months ago.

Hanworth Villa welcome Ashford Town to Rectory Meadow, in a match which we expected to be played on Tuesday but the weather got in the way- again, a torrential downpour at the last minute seeing the game postponed. The Villains are four without a win- although three of those were draws- and are comfortable in eighth place, whilst the travelling Tangerines aren’t yet comfortable, and although wins in their last two have lifted them to seventeenth, there remains only a four point gap between themselves and second bottom Binfield. Another win would do them a world of good- and they’ll want revenge for the five-three defeat they suffered against the Villains at Christmas, two last minute goals giving Villa three points.
