Trophy Tuesday- A South Central preview

By Ian Townsend

The First Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy gets underway tonight. Here's what that means to our Pitching In Isthmian South Central clubs.

Basingstoke Town have had a hit and miss start to their campaign, but hope to be back in a positive mood as they welcome Cirencester Town. Their opponents start to the campaign has been more miss than hit- without a league win, although their cup form has been much more positive.

Bedfont Sports haven’t had the start to the campaign they might have expected. The side from the end of the runway have played five matches this season and scored only one goal, remaining without a win. Their visitors, Hashtag United, saw a good run come to an end as they were the victims of a Romford giantkilling last time out- but they’d drawn one and won three of their previous four.

Chertsey Town welcome Uxbridge in an all South Central clash. The Curfews are unbeaten in the league, but they are having difficulty turning draws into wins and did lose to South Central opponents in the Cup; whilst the visitors, who have only one defeat all season, have won two cup ties already this season and have another on Saturday, as they travel to take on National League South side Eastbourne Borough.

Chipstead have former Isthmian side Waltham Abbey travelling to the High Road. The Chips picked up their first win of the campaign last time out, but haven’t played since August 29th. The Abbots sit in mid table in Pitching In Southern Division One Central, but their form in knock out competitions has been fabulous, with fourteen goals scored in three cup ties and only three conceded.

Cinderford Town of Pitching in Southern Division One South play host to Thatcham Town. Cinderford have conceded eight goals in their last two matches, whilst the Kingfishers are still searching for their first victory.

Pitching In Isthmian North hosts Pitching In Isthmian South Central as Sutton Common Rovers arrive at East Thurrock United. Rovers are comfortably in mid table but haven’t yet managed to find any consistency, whilst the Rocks- with two new signings- have had a terrible start to their league campaign with four straight defeats- but have won both of their cup ties so far.

FC Romania renew acquaintances with Westfield. Field have had some fine moments this season, with five impressive wins from their seven competitive matches, whilst the Wolves sit in mid table in Pitching In Southern Division One Central, and also have only two defeats this season. One of those defeats came against Heybridge Swifts in the FA Cup.

Haywards Heath Town have had a damp squib start to the season, and are still searching for a first victory, having lost four of their five matches so far. Southall are the visitors, the Pitching In Isthmian South Central side having looked very good on occasions this season- particularly in wins over Merstham and Guernsey.

Marlow welcome Binfield in another all South Central tie. The Moles are having a fine season- undefeated in all competitions and with the visit of National League South Tonbridge Angels to come in Saturday; whilst their hosts have lost their last two and will hope to get back to their early season form.

South Central leaders Northwood welcome Hanworth Villa. The Woods have won every league match so far, their only defeat of the campaign coming against Ashford Town in the cup; whilst the Villains have drawn three of their opening league four matches but do have two wins in the FA Cup.

Tooting & Mitcham United welcome Corinthian to Imperial Fields. The Terrors picked up their first win of their league campaign last time out- but last time out was 29th August, so they will be champing at the bit to get back out there. The travelling Hoops haven’t yet managed a win this season, but they did come very close to creating an upset against Met Police in the cup.

Walthamstow play host to Ashford Town (Middx). The hosts are comfortably in mid table in their first Pitching In Southern Division One Central campaign, whilst the Tangerines have had a slightly better start, with only two defeats from their eight competitive matches.

Walton & Hersham were excellent in defeating Beaconsfield Town in the FA Cup last week, and in their nine matches so far this season have been defeated only once. Visitors Leatherhead have had a less positive start, and have already lost to the Swans in the League, two-nil on August Bank Holiday Monday. They have an early chance for revenge.
