Tuesday night football

By Ian Townsend

We have two very important games tonight. Here's our preview.

In the Pitching In Isthmian Premier, Cheshunt, two points behind fifth place Lewes, not that nothing less than a win will do as they play their game in hand at the Rooks Sussex rivals Bognor Regis Town. Cheshunt's charge has slowed after a defeat and a draw against promotion rivals Hornchurch and Lewes, whilst the Rocks have looked invigorated under new boss Robbie Blake and are four matches unbeaten. The home fans at the Nye Camp know that their side has nothing to play for but pride, but they aren't short of that. The last time the two met, the Rocks won one-nil with a goal from Ashton Leigh, back in early October.

The Pitching In Isthmian North has a match crucial for both participants. Felixstowe and Walton United, five points behind fifth place Grays Athletic, very much need to win their game in hand to stay in the promotion hunt; the problem is that their game in hand is against third place Stowmarket Town, who would jump to second and close to within one point of leaders Aveley if they could win. The Seasiders have won three of their last four, whilst Stow would undoubtedly be even higher in the table if they hadn't had an attack of the jitters just lately. Whist they've only won won of their last five, they've only lost one, and it may be that the points dropped in the three draws may prove critical. The last time they met, Town won two-nil, with goals from Willie Clemons and Luke Brown.
