Tuesday's Premier Division action review

Margate closed to within four points of Ryman Premier Division leaders Maidstone United thanks to a 1-0 win at Leiston on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Margate made the long midweek trek up to Suffolk to face a home side who were just a couple of points off a play-off place at start of play.

And the hosts had the better of the opening half with new signing John Sands missing a golden chance to mark his debut with a headed goal from six yards.

Leiston were made to pay for not making the most of their first half dominance when, just five minutes into the second period, Freddie Ladapo struck to give Gate the lead.

The only other game on Tuesday was a relegation 'six-pointer' at the Village Glass Stadium which saw Witham Town win for the first time since December 13th.

They beat fellow strugglers Harrow Borough 3-1 to move three points clear of fourth-bottom AFC Hornchurch and four of their opponents who have played three games more.

Witham gave themselves a two-goal lead in the first half with goals from Ryan Charles after just seven minutes and then Danny Emmanuel after 34 minutes.

But they conceded a soft goal to Dan Moody four minutes before the break and were then pushed back by a determined Harrow side for much of the second period.

However, the equaliser wouldn't come and Witham made sure the points stayed in Essex when sub Luke Callander popped up with a third goal in time added on at the end of the game.
