Tuesday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

Ryman League Premier Division

There was no doubting where the match of Tuesday night was in the Ryman Premier Division, Margate's Hartsdown Park in Kent where a massive crowd of 2,306 saw leaders Maidstone United beaten for only the second time this season to date, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Much looked forward to games can often be let downs in the end – but not this one as it was an enthralling contest between the top two. Neither side could break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes but the decisive breakthrough arrived six minutes after the interval when Ryan Moss rifled home from Luke Moore’s pass.

There was plenty of action to come and a dramatic moment in the 66th minute when Maidstone thought they'd equalised but the ball was adjudged not to have crossed the line after striking the bar.

Dulwich Hamlet are third but had to be content with just one point from their game against much-improved Wingate & Finchley at Champion Hill.

A decent crowd of 514 saw the side`s go into half-time locked at 0-0 but the second period produced six goals, with David Knight breaking the deadlock by giving the visitors the lead from the penalty spot. Just 3 minutes later and Hamlet were level through Xavier Vidal and five minutes later were in front, thanks to Ibrahim Mansaray.

Knight pulled Wingate back on terms in the 76th minute, only for Vidal to notch his second of the night to make it 3-2 with six minutes to go. But just two minutes later sub Ola Sogbanmu grabbed the visitors' third and a share of the points.

Last season`s play-off finalists AFC Hornchurch climbed off the bottom of the table after a 3-0 win at Earlsmead against Harrow Borough. George Purcell proved to be the Urchins` hero, bagging a brace in the second and 25th minutes. A Michael Peacock own goal in the 54th minute summed up a miserable night for Boro.

Leiston claimed three excellent points on their travels against Tonbridge Angels at Earlsmead. Craig Parker's 69th minute goal clinched the points after Angels` Alex Teniola had cancelled out Patrick Brothers` 22nd minute opener in the 25th minute.

Hampton & Richmond Borough leap-frogged Enfield Town in lower mid-table after a 1-0 success at the Beveree, Tom Collins scoring the only goal of the game after 21 minutes.

Witham Town returned to winning ways with a 2-0 Essex derby win over East Thurrock United at the Village Glass Stadium. Kurt Smith came off the bench to break the deadlock just past the hour-mark before Tom Wraight made sure with a second with 19 minutes remaining.

Metropolitan Police slipped into seventh spot after a similar scoreline against Bognor Regis Town at Imber Court. Michael Charles gave the Met the lead on the half-hour mark and Reece Hall eventually made sure with a second with less than two minutes to go.
