Two more matches, two more victories

Two more sides go through on FA Cup Sunday

We had three sides in action in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round yesterday, but we couldn't have all three of them qualify for the next round as tw of them were playing each other. As such the best we could hope for was two BetVictor Isthmian victories, and that's just what we got.

The all-Isthmian tie came at Hayes Lane, where Cray Wanderers, fourteenth in the Premier Division, were hosting Bedfont Sports, thirteenth in the South Central. When Lee Lewis and
Joseph Taylor made it two-nil to the hosts midway through he first half it appeared to be game over, but Sports weren't having that, and gave Cray a nervous end to the match when they halved the arrears fourteen minutes from time, Joe Jackson steppin' out to score. Wands held on, and we'll find out who they'll play next when the draw for the Second Qualifying Round is made later today.

Meanwhile down at King George's Fields Walton Casuals, these days a BetVictor Southern League club, were revisiting the location of their last Isthmian League match, the day they won promotion in 2018. Casuals have had a terrible start to the campaign, losing every match, and their luck didn't change against Kingstonian. The K's have been draw specialists so far this season, but they will be delighted that on this occasion there is no replay required. After a goalless first half Kingstonian managed two after the break, the first from defender Ollie Cook, the second from Louie Theophanous, the striker getting his fourth goal of the season so far (he also got three in pre-season but we're not counting those!).

By the way, K's keeper Rob Tolfrey apparently made his four hundred and ninety ninth appearance-congratulations on five hundred on Saturday against Bowers & Pitsea, Rob (assuming you get selected!).

The Second Qualifying Round Draw sees the introduction of sides from the National League South and North. We've a selection of replays this week for the chance to play on Saturday 21st September, and you can find the entire list here. There is one change to be made from the fixtures shown- the replay between Lewes and Leatherhead will in fact be played on Wednesday evening.
