Two, three, four!

By Ian Townsend

Two of our sides go through from three ties- and Sutton Common Rovers get four on a night of FA Cup excitement

Saturday saw a great deal of drama, and we had even more of it last night when our last three FA Cup Preliminary Round Replays took place. We had mixed outcomes, but the balance was distinctly positive as Sutton Common Rovers progressed to meet Cray Wanderers in the next round, whilst Sevenoaks Town head through to face Redhill.

Rovers faced Steyning Town, the match being played at Banstead Athletic, and Stuart Tree was also there taking photographs- and you can see one of them above and the rest here. The football from Rovers was almost as spectacular as the sunset, with four first half goals blowing the visitors away. Tyrell Butler opened the scoring in the first minute, added a second on thirty four minutes, and that second started a spell of three goals in two minutes as Kyle Henry and Kiyo Brown made it four. The next fifty four minutes saw no more goal action, but there wasn't really any need, was there?

Watch the goals below.

Sevenoaks Town travelled to Erith Town. Oaks were saved from defeat against the SCEFL side on Saturday by a late Louis Collins goal, and they didn't have it all their own way last night, but first half goals from Joe Tennett and Dean Gunner turned out to be enough despite Erith halving the deficit early in the second half.

Sittingbourne came from two goals and a man down against Littlehampton Town on Saturday to claim a draw, but they were blown away by the SCFL side on the Sussex coast last night, losing four-nil. Incidentally the fourth goal from the Golds came from George Gaskin, who Isthmian League watchers might recall once scored two Boxing Day hat tricks- one for Town, the other for our very own Horsham- in a single day. That was the 26th December 2016, but it was the Brickies giving away the gifts last night, sadly.
