Vita Risk Solutions: Manager of the Month Award, February 2024

By Ian Townsend

In conjunction with our friends at Vita Risk, we honour the best Pitching In Isthmian managers of the shortest month of the year

We thought about postponing the awards due to rain, just to fit in with the rest of the month, but instead here are the Vita Risk Solutions Managers of the Month for February 2024.

Premier Division

It will surprise precisely nobody that we’re off to Hornchurch- again- but on this occasion there will be a new name on the trophy, as we honour the work of new Urchins boss Daryl McMahon.

Daryl joined the Urchins at the end of January, and his first month in the hotseat couldn’t really have gone any better. Four wins from four matches, three clean sheets, ten goals scored, two conceded- and his side nine points clear at the top having played three matches fewer than their closest rivals- all add up to a fantastic February, and nobody would want to bet against that being followed by a magnificent March.

Many congrats to Daryl, and welcome to the Isthmian League. At this rate, it might be a rather short stay, for all the right reasons!

North Division

We’re heading East, and stopping just before we hit the sea, as we honour Felixstowe and Walton United boss Stuart Boardley.

The Seasiders had a superb February, playing five times and picking up a perfect fifteen points. Redbridge, Walthamstow, Brightlingsea Regent, Wroxham and Grays Athletic lined up against them, and each- despite some close matches- left with absolutely nothing to show for their efforts, as United showed their resilience and fought right until the last whistle. That was particularly the case in the last match of the month, which saw them come from behind twice to defeat Grays Athletic in the third minute of added time.

Many congratulations to Stuart, and to all the Seasiders.

South Central Division

Our congratulations on a fabulous January went to Chertsey Town boss Mark Harper, and our congratulations for a fabulous February are heading in the same direction.

The Curfews, unbeaten since mid September, have opened up an eight point lead at the top of the South Central table, and February saw them play five times and win four of them. Met Police, Badshot Lea, Chipstead and Marlow took nothing from encounters with Town, and indeed the only surprise was quite how close South Park Reigate came to ending that unbeaten run in the last match of the month, but even then the Curfews somehow managed to take a point right at the end.

Many congratulations to Mark for a fine month, a fine season, and for proving conclusively that these awards don’t have to come with a curse!

South East Division

It’s been a superb season so far for Cray Valley PM, and we’re off to the Artic Stadium for the second month in a row to pay tribute to the magnificent work of Millers boss Steve McKimm.

After seven league matches in January, the Millers had five more in February. Merstham and Three Bridges were defeated to nil, Chichester City also didn’t manage to score but took a point, and then the Millers found top form and hit four against both East Grinstead Town and Burgess Hill Town, results which lifted them to the top of the table.

Many congratulations to Steve, and to all his band of Millers, on beating fatigue, the weather, and almost all that was put in front of them- for a second month in a row.
