Wednesday Night Football

By Ian Townsend

We’re heading North- well, along the M11- to Enfield, and across the sea to Guernsey for our final Wednesday night of the regular season

We have matches in Pitching In Isthmian North and South Central this evening, so you can catch a match at Bishop’s Stortford and Guernsey (the last of those might have needed some forward planning).

In the North Division Enfield welcome Redbridge to the R&D Advisors Stadium. The E’s haven’t managed a victory since January 27th, and end the campaign with two home matches where they look to put that right. The fourteen matches since they defeated Wroxham almost three months ago have brought them only one point, and they have been saved from the drop only by Stowmarket Town’s inability to win at all, so the home faithful certainly deserve something to sing about. The travelling fans have had lots to sing about recently, as the Motormen have not only won the Essex Senior Cup but have only two defeats from their last ten league matches, and indeed have won four of their last five. The Motormen defeated the E’s three-nil in September.

The South Central Division sees Guernsey welcome Hartley Wintney. The Green Lions confirmed their safety with a draw against Northwood on Sunday, and would like to end the season with a victory to give the home faithful something positive to remember as they head into the summer. They haven’t won in nine matches, losing seven of them- the other two three-all draws; a run which resembles that of their visitors, who have gone eight matches without a victory.

When the two met at The Memorial Fields the Row won two-nil, on November 4th- and a repeat of that would lift tonight’s visitors back into the top ten.
