Wednesday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Just 48 hours after holding Ryman Premier leaders to a goalless draw, Grays Athletic beat fellow play-off contenders Wingate & Finchley 3-2 on Wednesday night to move into the top five, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Playing their fourth game in eight days, the Essex hosts were ahead after 18 minutes through Joao Carlos.

James Stevens doubled Grays' lead from the penalty spot five minutes later, only for Wingate's top scorer David Knight to reduce the deficit right on the stroke of half-time.

An entertaining game saw Carlos stretch Grays' lead to 3-1 with 20 minutes to go, and although Knight also bagged his brace – this time from the spot – it came with only seconds of the match remaining.

With key Easter games ahead, it's still incredibly tight in the race for the play-offs, with only five points separating twelfth-placed Metropolitan Police and Grays in fifth.
