Wednesday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

Lewes finally achieved their first win in the Ryman League's Premier Division at the ninth attempt on Wednesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Rooks won 4-0 at the Beveree against a Hampton & Richmond Borough side who were forced to play with ten-men for an hour following the dismissal of defender Joe Hicks.

Jay Lovett immediately gave the visitors the lead and, after the Beavers had re-organised themselves, he doubled that lead 12 minutes into the second half.

Leon Redwood virtually made the points and a first win in the bag safe with a third on 77 minutes, Troy Williams adding a fourth for good measure six minutes from time.

Two first half goals in five first half minutes saw Leiston return to winning ways and a second win over Enfield Town in two weeks.

Gareth Heath headed home the opener after 18 minutes before a sweet strike from Christy Finch put the Blues in control. A resolute second half display saw the hosts fend off the lively Towners and move up into third position.

Bognor Regis Town were held to a 1-1 draw by Enfield last Saturday but grabbed all three points from another Nyewood Lane encounter on Wednesday against Metropolitan Police.

But they had to come back from being a 23rd minute Jon Nurse goal down to win, thanks to Jason Prior from the penalty spot two minutes after half-time and then Alfie Rutherford, who came off the bench to grab the winner on 68 minutes.
