With seven points between the top six, it could be all change once more this weekend!

By Ian Townsend

Three teams could end tomorrow on top of the South Central Division, and the next three could all change places. It’s our preview of the action.

Ware are back on top of the South Central Division for now. We say “for now” because the lead has changed more often than the weather recently, but the Blues will hope to extend the gap tomorrow, as they play in our match of the day, with fourth place Uxbridge visiting Wodson Park.

Uxbridge are unbeaten in five, and indeed have only one defeat in ten- whilst although Ware lose infrequently, it always seems to be one of the promotion-chasing pack that does it- their last three defeats have come against Westfield, Waltham Abbey and Tooting & Mitcham United. Can Uxbridge turn that trio into a quartet? If they do they could climb to third place, but it certainly won’t be easy.

Second place Hanwell Town had their chance to return to the top denied by Uxbridge in midweek, the sides playing out a goalless draw. The Geordies host Staines Town, a side who have only three points from their last twenty four- all from draws. The Swans have been good against the top sides, however, taking four points from Tooting and drawing with Uxbridge, so shouldn’t be written off- whilst a defeat against Westfield apart Hanwell seem to have returned to form lately, winning three and drawing one of their last five.

Westfield saw their long unbeaten run end at home to Barking last time out, and travel to face the tough challenge of Marlow tomorrow. The hosts sit in mid table, yet have only lost five matches all season and have the fourth best defensive record, with only two defeats from their last ten. Westfield, however, have a better defensive record than their opponents and have scored almost twice as many goals- and victory could take them back to the summit were Ware to lose and Hanwell fail to win.

We have a cracker in prospect at Imperial Fields, as Tooting and Mitcham United, in sixth place, take on fifth place Waltham Abbey. The Terrors have three matches in hand over four of the five teams above them, and three wins would most probably take them top of the table, so they certainly shouldn’t be underestimated. Victory over the Abbotts could take them as high as fourth, and would certainly see them back into the top five. The Terrors have lost only three of their last ten matches, but the Abbotts have lost only one. It could be a nail-biter.

Barking, who are four points off the Playoff places and defeated former leaders Westfield last time out, host FC Romania at Mayesbury Park. The Blues have lost only two of their last ten, whilst the Wolves have one victory and nine defeats during the same period- and are only two points off the bottom of the table.

Chertsey Town seem to have returned to their early season form of late, taking seven points from their last nine and walloping Hertford Town six-one last weekend. They travel to Northwood, the Woods desperate for points after seven consecutive defeats.

Bracknell Town, six points away from the top five with two matches in hand, host Chalfont St Peter at Larges Lane. The Robins are unbeaten in six, with four victories, whilst the Saints have only two points from the same period but did put in good displays in a draw with Barking and narrow defeat against Hanwell Town in their last two.

Chipstead have been superb lately. Unbeaten in eight and with six victories, the Chips host another side who had been in good form, Bedfont Sports- but the visitors have slipped up of late, losing their last two narrowly against Ware and Marlow.

Harlow Town, who announced four Friday signings, travel to Hertford Town. This is a battle between two sides struggling for form, the visiting Hawks with only one win in ten, Hertford having won three and lost seven during that period, including four of their last five. They’ll hope to give the home crowd something to cheer after losing six-one at Chertsey last weekend.

Bottom side Ashford Town made three signings this week, and will put them to the test as they host South Park. The Tangerines have taken four points from their last thirty and badly need to start seeing an improvement if they are to stave off relegation, whilst the Sparks have won three and lost two of their last five, those two defeats coming against Ware and Westfield.

Where next?

Have Hastings wheels fallen off? it seems unlikely! Even without winning United extended their South East Division lead to six points. Can they get back to winning ways this weekend- or do Ashford United, Whitehawk and the rest still have hope? It's our preview of the action.
