A big night for Tangerine dreams

By Ian Townsend

Ashford Town dream of Pitching In Isthmian South Central safety, and three points tonight would be a big step- as they play both at home and away

Ashford Town have had a torrid time of late. A run of nine matches without a win- including seven defeats- has left them perilously close to the Pitching In Isthmian South Central drop zone, with only one point the gap between themselves and fourth bottom Sutton Common Rovers. The silver lining for Town is that they have two matches in hand over the sides chasing them, but those matches will only be useful if they can pick up points- and tonight gives them the first opportunity to do so, as they ‘travel’ to their own ground to face tenants Southall.

The All are twelve points better off and firmly in mid table, with nothing to play for apart from local bragging rights. They’ve seen their usually steadfast defence struggle a little in recent weeks, and have lost their last three- but they have already defeated Town this season, winning three-one on January 2nd, and would dearly like to do the same again. Sutton Common Rovers, Bedfont Sports and Merstham- each of whom are within one win of the Tangerines- would all like to see a home win, too, as victory for Town would reduce their automatic survival chances markedly.

Kick off at the Robert Parker Stadium is at 7.45 PM.
