A Guide to Football Tuesday!

By Ian Townsend

We’ve a number of important fixtures tonight in League and Trophy (x2). Here’s what they all mean.

We’ve a collection of important fixtures this evening, so we thought we’d give you a short preview of the action. We’ll start in the Premier Division, where Folkestone Invicta could go four points clear at the top if they can defeat Cheshunt at the seaside. Invicta have only one league defeat so far this season and are undefeated at home in all competitions, whilst the Ambers have won only one of their four away matches and have had very little luck so far this season, losing by one goal on five occasions. An away win could see Craig Edwards side climb as high as eleventh.

At the Whisky Bible Stadium we have two sides both looking to get back to winning ways, as Merstham host Cray Wanderers. The Moatsiders have lost their last three, and indeed have lost six of their last seven, the only victory during that period a four-nil hammering of Wingate & Finchley, whilst Wands form, previously excellent, has slipped- with two defeats in a row, against Haringey Borough In the FA Cup and Enfield Town in the league.

We then have five FA Trophy replays. Canvey Island host Ashford Town after their 2-2 draw on Saturday, the winners travelling to Chipstead in the next round, whilst Histon travel to Corby Town after the original match ended goalless. The winners of that match will travel to Redditch United.

Sevenoaks Town and Aylesbury Town will do it all again after sharing four goals on Saturday, a trip to Haywards Heath Town the prize, whilst Ware and Whitstable Town meet in Hertfordshire with the winners travelling to Leatherhead.

Witham Town host Ashford United, and the winners will host Barton Rovers.

One Trophy match which is not a replay sees East Grinstead Town host Aveley after the original tie was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The winners there will earn the right to host Bowers & Pitsea.

Over to the Velocity Trophy now, and where we have four matches. In Group Two, Waltham Abbey host Brentwood Town. The Abbotts have played three matches so far losing them all, whilst Town have a win and two defeats to show for their efforts.

In Group Three, Soham Town Rangers entertain Hertford Town looking for their first victory in the competition, but Town don't have one either- although they've played only one match, a 0-0 draw and penalty shootout defeat at home to Cambridge City.

Group Four brings us a Sussex derby, as Burgess Hill Town bring Hastings United to the Green Elephants Stadium. Both sides have won both of their fixtures so far. Finally, in Group Nine, VCD Athletic will take on Phoenix Sports in that most local of local derbies, with VCD still looking for their first victory in this years competition, whilst Sports will want to bounce back after a three-nil home defeat to Sevenoaks Town on 28th September.

We’ll have a round up of all of the action tomorrow morning.
