BetVictor Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2019/20: Folkestone Invicta

We’re off to the seaside, and we’ve got a Fullicks double-header

We asked supporters of our BetVictor Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Folkestone Invicta finished last season like an express train (only without charging the ridiculous amount of money that you’d pay for the express train that actually runs to Folkestone). Joel Russell and Ade Dawkes give their views on whether they’ll do even better this time around.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Joel: One of my favourite moments of last season has got to be when we beat Hornchurch 5-0 and Alfie Paxman scored one from quite a distance. Margate away as well, when we won 3-0.

Ade: Beating Bognor Regis Town away. They hadn’t lost until then, and we’d had two terrible away trips at Kingstonian and AFC Hornchurch, losing 4-1 both times.

2. And your worst moment?

Joel: Well I could think of a couple. Wingate & Finchley at home would be first; going up 2-0 into 90 minutes and having the excitement of thinking you’re going to win, and then your opponents stick 2 past you is quite heartbreaking. Losing 6-0 at Dorking Wanderers was probably the worst moment of last season though, especially as we were on a decent run of form.

Ade: Losing out on the final day and failing to reach the playoffs. We were flying at the time, and I’m pretty sure no-one would have wanted us in the semi-final.

3. How will you do this season?

Joel: Well it depends how we start, as really good starts usually lead to a good end. There is an air of confidence around the camp so anything less than the playoffs could be seen as disappointing.

Ade: Play offs at least- maybe champions!

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Joel: All the new teams for me really- Bowers and Pitsea, Horsham etc. Lewes again as well, lovely little ground.

Ade: Wingate & Finchley and Lewes, the two I missed last season.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Joel: That’s a tough one for me I love going to Enfield Town, and I also like Corinthian Casuals ground as well as it has character. But Lewes is my favourite.

Ade: Margate, because we always seem to win there!

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Joel: Dover in terms of history, but currently Margate.

Ade: Margate, until we play Dover again. Maybe that will be next season, after we go up and they come down.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Joel: Make sure you get down nice and early and visit the Harbour and all the pubs around Folkestone- then get the 73 or 71 bus up to the ground.

Ade: Get to the ground early. The beer is good, the food is excellent, and I play some decent 80’s music before kick off (Ade is the PA announcer).

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Joel: Michael Everitt- over 700 apperances for Folkestone and is just a true legend.

Ade: Current captain Callum Davies- pure class.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Joel: Carshalton Athletic, Bognor Regis Town, Folkestone Invicta, Haringey Borough, East Thurrock United.

Ade: Folkestone Invicta, Lewes, Worthing, Kingstonian, Haringey Borough.
