BetVictor Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2019/20: Cambridge City

We’re going North- or technically east- and on this occasion end up in Cambridge.

We asked supporters of our BetVictor Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Cambridge City will be a new club for most BetVictor Isthmian League supporters. Stephen Warne gives us an introduction.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

We had a pretty average season, and it was a bit disappointing to finish very mid table, but the highlight came in the FA Trophy with a brilliant 4-2 away win against Peterborough Sports. We were superb that day. Sports ended up winning the league which showed how good a result that was.

Sadly we were just a bit inconsistent and couldn’t play as well as that every week.

2. And your worst moment?

Losing 2-0 to bottom of the league Kidlington on a freezing, windy November day! Think that was the their first win of the season too!

3. How will you do this season?

It’s a bit of an unknown for most fans this season, having made the switch from the Southern League Central. I would hope we would be in and around the play off places so will be optimistic and say we will get 5th spot.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

There’s a whole host of new ones for us City fans to choose from, which is very exciting for people like me, who love ticking off new grounds! Stand outs would be Felixstowe, because it’s by the sea! Also looking forward to Canvey Island, as I missed the FA Trophy replay with them back in 2008 where we won on penalties!

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Difficult to comment as I believe played very few of the teams before. I like Bury Town’s ground and it’s a local derby, so will say them.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Our rivalry with Histon will be renewed with them having come up. It’s made tastier by the fact we groundshare. It should attract a decent gate, and local interest, which is good for the club. Not sure the rivalry will hit the heyday of 2005/06 season, when we beat Histon 3-1 in the New Year game in front of over 1500.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Get involved with buying 50-50’s draw tickets. We try and replicate this at away games as it all helps each other out.

Have a chat with us in the bar or around the ground! We’re a friendly set of fans who enjoy chewing the fat about non league football.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

I was too young to watch the Gary Grogan era, who would be many fans choice. But in my 20 years I really enjoyed the goals from Adam Marriott. Such a clever quality player and getting over 40 goals in one season was just phenomenal. Shame it didn’t quite get us promotion that year.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

AFC Sudbury, Aveley, Coggeshall Town, Maldon & Tiptree, Cambridge City
