Can Swifts defend their fortress once more?

By Ian Townsend

We've two matches in Pitching In Isthmian North tonight, with interest at both ends of the table. Here's our preview.

Heybridge Swifts will need to put their Trophy heroics behind them as they resume the hunt for league points against Brentwood Town tonight.

A win for Swifts will take them up to fourth place, and they have an unbeaten record at Scraley Road so would have been confident even without Saturday’s demolition of Hereford to fall back on. The only side to take anything away from a visit to Swifts this season have been National League South side Braintree Town- and they were very lucky to escape with a draw. Swifts are eight games unbeaten in all competitions.

The visitors start the day back down in eleventh place, five points behind Swifts having played a game more. The Blues were in brilliant form prior to a narrow defeat at Stowmarket Town, having won their previous six matches, and have promotion pretentions of their own. Last season they took six points from tonight’s opponents, but we suspect their task tonight might be a tad more tricky.

Basildon United made it two wins from two at the weekend, and start their match against Wroxham with an eight point cushion over their fourth bottom opponents- although the Yachtsmen do have two games in hand. The visitors have taken only one point from their last twelve- but apart from a thumping at the hands of AFC Sudbury every defeat has been narrow.
