Chenery wants company on the touchline

Bury Town manager Ben Chenery is expected to appoint a new assistant manager this week to help him turn around Ryman Premier club's fortunes.

Blues director of football Trevor Collins has ruled himself out of the running for a role he previously held at Ram Meadow under former manager Richard Wilkins.

Chenery, pictured, has been aided by player-coach Russell Short since his appointment alongside him in the summer and he's told the Bury Free Press that he is aiming to have a new right hand man in place ahead of the club's key clash in the Ryman's top flight on Wednesday night at fourth from bottom Lewes.

A win at the Dripping Pan would see Chenery's bottom of the table side draw level on points with the Rooks and he said: "Every team we play against have three or four coaches and staff on the bench. You need a support network — the board and chairman have been fantastic trying to make things happen behind the scenes."

* Michelle Banfield-Curran is taking over as the chief executive of the Blues on January 2. The club's current commercial manager will oversee all aspects of the club on and off the pitch and will be aided by two new directors who joined the Suffolk club's board last week.

Ian Cowie has been appointed as finance director and company secretary while Garry Barker is the new development director with responsibility for developing youth football.

Currently secretary of Bury Town Youth, a position he will retain, Barker will work to integrate the youth section into main club, a process that has been on-going for the past couple of years.
