Defender Steve Robinson insists Lewes supporters can look forward to a bright future despite leaving the club after failing to agree terms for next season's Ryman League campaign.

Robinson, who captained the Rooks last season in the Premier Division and made more than 200 appearances, hailed the club's fans and new manager Garry Wilson after it was confirmed on Saturday that he was leaving the Dripping Pan.

The big defender said: "It's an incredibly difficult decision to leave the club but it's a very amicable departure and having spoken with Garry I know the club has a bright future. The Lewes supporters are the best I've played in front of in my whole career. I'll miss them and all the off-field backing I've had at the club."

Wilson confirmed Robinson's departure and wished one of the club's most popular players in recent seasons well in his future career.

He said: "Sadly, these things happen in football. Steve lives a good distance away and now is probably a good time to part, for both parties. Everyone at the club wishes him well."
