Hastings boss Gary Elphick departs

Hastings United announced the departure of manager Gary Elphick- and Assistant Jon Meeney- on Wednesday.

Elphick joined the club as a player after leaving Burgess Hill Town in March 2019, and made thirty two appearances as the club led the promotion chase before the 2019-20 season came to a premature end. He followed that with another twelve appearances before the 2020-21 season came to a premature end, and then took over as manager following the departure of Chris Agutter in November 2021. He steered the club to promotion from Pitching In Isthmian South East at the end of his first season, and went on to deliver an eighth place finish in the campaign just completed- their bets finish in thirteen years.

He told the local paper:

"The board wanted something that I didn’t feel I could give 100 per cent to.

I have worked with the best bunch of human beings it’s possible to find – the best I’ve worked with – and I’m sad it’s ended.

We are gutted because in many ways it was a work in progress. I’d like to thank the club for the chance they gave me to be the manager. I enjoyed doing it and I can look back with pride over what was achieved."
