Shot of the Season: Marc Richards

We asked our fabulous photographers to pick their favourite photograph of the Pitching In Isthmian campaign, and explain why it’s important to them. Marc has watched as Sheppey United have had a fine first Isthmian season

When was the image taken (match, event, etc)?

Burgess Hill Town v Sheppey United, February 11th.

Why is it important to you?

This image shows Josh Wisson lifting Frankie Morgan after the match away to Burgess Hill Town on Saturday 11th February.  I have chosen this photograph because for me it shows the closeness of the team after a good win- and because it makes me laugh when I see it, as it did at the match.

Where can we find the rest of your work?

My photos can be found on my Flickr account under the name of SheppeyIte and are always shared via Twitter under the name of marc280684.

How and why did you begin taking photographs at football matches?

I had been a supporter at Sheppey for a number of years before I began taking photographs  in pre season of 2015- after our previous photographer moved on to another club with the previous management, I took along a camera to a pre season match and was asked whether I'd like to take photos going forward.  I had never taken photos at football before and had no training or experience so I had no idea how difficult it would be, but thankfully the club have allowed me to continue ever since and I have worked hard to learn and improve my technique.

What are your hopes for the forthcoming season?

I hope that in the coming season Sheppey will be happy for me to continue to photograph matches, and I hope to continue to improve to provide the club/players/supporters with the best photos that I can achieve. On the pitch I hope the club can build on a fantastic first season in this league and push for the playoffs or higher again.

If you're a photographer who would like to send in their shot of the season, please answer the questions above and email to Ian on townsendaround@gmail.com
