It’s Tuesday, and it’s…not raining all that much…so we have some football for you!

Here’s our preview of matches in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier, North, South Central and Velocity Trophy

Pitching In Isthmian Premier

At the Camping World Community Stadium, Horsham and Enfield Town will try to turn around some relatively poor recent form and climb the table. The Hornets have gone three matches without a victory, whilst the Towners, newly reinforced with the arrival of Bishop’s Stortford striker Jake Cass, have only one win in six and were trounced by the Hornets Sussex rivals Lewes at the weekend.

We can only find record of two previous meetings between the sides, and the Hornets won both of those, the last a five-two win on October 6th 2020; a Charlie Harris hat trick seeing the Sussex side come from behind. Chris Smith and Harvey Sparks also scored for the Hornets, whilst Billy Bricknell and Sam Youngs got the Towners goals.

Potters Bar Town have announced that their pitch has passed an inspection and that they will welcome Margate this evening. Gate have won their last three, and indeed four of their last five, defeating Worthing and Folkestone Invicta during that run; whilst the Scholars are on a run of three consecutive defeats but have found matches hard to come by recently, not managing to play since New Years Day and with only that one match- a defeat at Enfield Town- being played in the last three and a half weeks.

The last five meetings between the two have seen two wins each and a draw, but rather surprisingly the sides have not one home victory between them during that sequence. Their last meeting, on November 23rd 2019, ended in a two-two draw; an Elliott Reeves double gave the Blues an early advantage, but Roman Michael-Percil got a goal back before the break and Josh Hutchinson equalised for Bar from the spot in the very last minute. POSTPONED.

Pitching In Isthmian North

Brentwood Town will climb to fourth place with victory tonight, but they’ll have to work hard to record such a result as their visitors are Bury Town.

Brentwood are in fabulous form, with only one defeat- and eight victories- from their last ten matches. The visitors are four matches unbeaten- although they did draw the first three of those- but were superb last time out, crushing local rivals AFC Sudbury four-one.

The hosts have gone seven matches against these opponents without a win. The last time they met, back in September 2019, the game ended one-one, with both goals- from Cemal Ramadan and Andy Freeman- being scored within the first eight minutes.

Felixstowe & Walton United host Great Wakering Rovers. The Seasiders are four games unbeaten, and have impressive wins over Dereham Town and Canvey Island during that run; whilst Rovers have also defeated the Gulls recently, coming from two down in their last match to win three-two. The last time they met was as recently as September, Rovers travelling to the Goldstar Ground in the FA Cup and departing with a three-one victory- and Rovers have won three of their last six meetings, with one draw.

Pitching In Isthmian South Central

Staines Town have managed only one match during the last three weeks, and that a defeat against leaders Bracknell Town which, given the Robins habit of defeating everyone lately, tells us little about the Swans form. Their last home match, three weeks tonight, saw them defeat Tooting & Mitcham United, and another side in black and white, Hanwell Town, arrive at Wheatsheaf Park tonight- but the Geordies are likely to be a stiffer proposition than the Terrors.

Hanwell also defeated Tooting in their last match, and indeed by the same two-nil scoreline, and have had a bit of an up and down season by their standards but could still close to within a point of the top five with victory tonight. The last time the two met, back in September, the Geordies won a rather extraordinary match by six goals to five, coming back from a rather improbably four goal down to do it.

Westfield and Chipstead meet in a mid-table battle. Field were impressive in a two-two draw with Basingstoke Town last time out, but have gone five matches without a win; whilst the Chips are in similar form, having gone nine matches without a win before their victory over South Park last time out. Field have won each one of their four previous league meetings, the only Chips success coming in the FA Cup.

Velocity Trophy

We’ve four matches in the Second Round of the competition.

Two of them are all-South East ties, as Corinthian host Sevenoaks Town and Herne Bay welcome Whitstable Town. Oaks won the league meeting between the two by one goal to nil, so we suspect that tonight’s match may be similarly close; whilst the last time Bay and the Oysterboys met the outcome was anything but close, Bay defeating their visitors by seven goals to two on December 27th. At least this gives Town a very speedy opportunity for revenge.

Another South Central side, Hythe Town, welcome South Park to the Kentish seaside, whilst we have a second South Central v South East match up as Thatcham Town host Faversham Town. The Cannons have gone seven league matches without a win so a cup competition might prove a healthy respite, whilst their Reigate opponents haven’t looked all that Spark-y either, losing their last four.

The Kingfishers have only one win from their last six in the league, whilst the visiting Lilywhites have gone three without a win themselves.
