Our shortlist for the Pitching In Performance of the Month Award caused rather a lot of debate at Isthmian Towers, but eventually we agreed on some winners, and here they are!
Pitching In Isthmian Premier
Horsham have been absolutely superb in the FA Cup (good luck on Saturday, Hornets!). On October 16th they welcomed National League Woking to the Camping World Community Stadium. The Cards had recently defeated Chesterfield, Notts County and Dagenham & Redbridge, but they were no match for Horsham, for whom Tom Kavanagh got the winner three minutes from time. Carlisle United better not be over-confident!
Pitching In Isthmian North
We’re staying in the FA Cup, and we’re off to AFC Sudbury. The yellows have been superb in League and Cup, but we’re harking back to the 16th October, when unbeaten National League South league leaders Dartford arrived in Essex. They weren’t unbeaten when they left, the yellows coming from behind to score three times and seal a quite remarkable victory against a side two levels higher. Colchester United are up next, and we’re quite confident they can do it again! Congratulations to all at the club.
Pitching In Isthmian South Central
South Park had only one win from seven matches when Sutton Common Rovers arrived at Whitehall Lane, but they put that right in some style, thrashing home six goals without reply. Melford Simpson, Alex Andrade Felipe, Adam Aziz and Ibrahim Jalloh were the goalscorers, and it seems to really have sparked the Sparks into form which has catapulted them up the table. Congratulations to all at Whitehall Lane.
Pitching In Isthmian South East Division
Hastings United had mixed fortunes in October, but right at the start of the month they welcomed Chippenham Town of National League South to Pilot Field and showed them exactly why they are our title favourites, a goal from King Kenny Pogue sending them through to the final qualifying round of the FA Cup. Congratulations to all who reside by the Sussex seaside.
Pitching In is a Grassroots Sports Investment Programme launched by GVC, the multi-national sports-betting and gaming group which owns Ladbrokes and Coral. The partnership covers all three leagues that make up Steps 3 & 4 of the National Leagues System.
Pitching In has been set up with the objective of supporting, protecting and encouraging grassroots sports in the UK through a range of initiatives.
In addition to financial support, a key focus of the partnership will be to facilitate and encourage members of the community to become volunteers, and do some pitching in of their own. A Pitching In volunteering scheme will be established to link GVC’s Ladbrokes and Coral shop colleagues with their local clubs.
