Supreme Trophies and Engraving - Performance of the Month, September 2019

By Ian Townsend

It’s that time again. Here are our September Performance of the Month Awards, courtesy of those fine folk at Supreme Trophies and Engraving.

We had many fantastic performances to pick from, and making a decision caused a number of headaches, but we finally came to a conclusion. Our Supreme Trophies & Engraving Performance of the Month winners for September are as follows:

Premier Division:

Corinthian-Casuals fans haven’t been given too much to shout about in the league so far this season, but it has been a different story in the FA Cup. A 4-0 First Qualifying Round victory over Sevenoaks Town saw the club handed a home draw against National League South Chelmsford City, and once more those in pink and brown triumphed impressively, Nathaniel Pinney and Shaun Okojie finding the net in a two-nil win at King George’s Field. Casuals travel to Kings Langley in the next round tomorrow, and they’ll do it knowing that they’ll have our trophy to gaze at shortly in recognition of that victory over City. Congratulations- and good luck tomorrow.

North Division:

We’re staying in the FA Cup, and we’re heading to Canvey Island- who, incidentally, will be the subjects of our matchday feature tomorrow, as they take on Bowers & Pitsea in the next round. The Gulls travelled to Step Three St Ives Town in the Second Qualifying Round, held them to a goalless draw, brought them back to Essex, and then- helped by the deadly forehead of Jason Hallett- came from behind to win the replay in extra time. Congrats to all at Park Lane.

South Central Division:

Once more our gaze alighted on a collection of FA Cup heroics- although Tooting & Mitcham United, as yet undefeated in all competitions, haven’t been short of heroics on all fronts this season; indeed they’ve won every match but one. Dorking Wanderers, our current Premier Division champions and now riding high at the top end of National League South, arrived at Imperial Fields on the back of three consecutive victories- but they didn’t leave with a fourth. The match had but one goal, and it went to the Terrors- Danny Bassett popping up to score just after the break, as Tooting held on to record a famous victory even when playing the last half an hour with only ten men. Congrats and good luck to all at Tooting as they host Poole Town tomorrow- nobody would bet against another giant-killing.

South East Division:

We didn’t want to buck an established trend, so our fourth and final award also goes to an FA Cup performance. Chichester City, new to the BetVictor Isthmian League after their promotion from the SCFL at the end of last season, have had a magnificent start to life at Step Four- and their cup form has been even better. Erith Town, Bridon Ropes and Chalfont St Peter had already been despatched before Chi were drawn to travel to Southern League South Premier side Hartley Wintney, and after a goalless draw in Hampshire City brought their opponents back to Sussex and a goal from Jamie Horncastle saw their higher-level opponents despatched.
They face Isthmian Premier opponents at Oaklands Park tomorrow as Enfield Town arrive in the Third Qualifying Round.
