Ten: Four

By Ian Townsend

We've four sides leading the way, as Sudbury fight back, Felixstowe march on, Swifts and Salamis keep pace. It's our Pitching In Isthmian North round up

AFC Sudbury lost their one hundred percent record- but they took a point where none seemed likely, coming from two-nil down against local rivals Bury Town at Ram Meadow. Cruise Nydazayo gave the Blues an early lead after just eight minutes (pictured, brilliantly by Neil Dady, who must already have a contender for shot of the year) and awoke the nine hundred and thirty nine watching on, and when Cemal Ramadan’s EIGHTH of the season made it two midway through the half the noise would have shocked the tourists in the Abbey Gardens, but the Yellows weren’t done. Five minutes after the break Saturday’s four goal hero Nnamdi Nwachuku got another- his sixth of the campaign- and five minutes after that he had the chance to add a seventh from the spot. He duly delivered, and the scoring stopped there.

Sudbury remain top on goal difference, but they are one of four sides on ten points. Felixstowe and Walton United are second, the Seasiders winning three-one at Coggeshall Town, who are still searching for that first victory. Noel Aitkins gave the Seed Growers bad luck on thirteen minutes, and just after the break Callum Harrison made it two. The killer third goal arrived on fifty six minutes, Josh Hitter hammering the final blow into the hosts hopes, although they did get a goal back four minutes from time, Cesario Mendes with it.

Heybridge Swifts won their big derby match at Maldon & Tiptree by two goals to one. Six hundred and eleven were in attendance, and the home fans amongst them must be rather despondent, as they’ve now seen their side lose every one of their four matches so far this season. Rob Harvey put the visitors ahead just after the half hour, and the match remained on a knife-edge until Andy Fennell’s sixth of the season made it two-nil just before the end. There was still time for an own goal to give the Jammers a modicum of hope, but there was to be no jam today.

New Salamis have had a fine start to their first Pitching In Isthmian campaign, and made it three wins from four at Great Wakering Rovers. Freddy Tandon opened the scoring for the visitors on nine minutes, and just after the half hour Derek Asamoah made it two. Five minutes from time Eusebio Da Silva made the closing stages interesting for the home fans, but not interesting enough as the visitors held on for all three points.

Witham Town fans must be pinching themselves as a late goal gave them victory over previously unbeaten Grays Athletic and lifted them to fifth. Liam Whipps opened the scoring for Town just before the break, but Athletic drew level on sixty four minutes, Callum Watts with his second of the season. Right at the end when a draw seemed the only outcome, Ramiah Mills continued his magnificent start to the season with his fourth goal, to earn all three points for his side.

Let’s not forget, however, that fifth place Lowestoft Town are only a point off the top, have a one hundred percent record, and- they’re playing an FA Cup match today- now have a game in hand.

Tilbury are seventh, courtesy of a two-one win at East Thurrock United. Adam Topley opened the scoring on eighteen minutes, Chris Millar made it two-nil twenty minutes later, and despite Harry Hope bringing hope for the Rocks on sixty four minutes the equaliser wouldn’t arrive. That’s four defeats from four for United.

Stowmarket Town saw Reginald Thompson-Lambe score the only goal of the game as they welcomed Wroxham. That’s three goals for the Town number nine, this latest one seeing his side into ninth.

Hashtag United are just behind them on goal difference. The Tags ensured that Brentwood Town’s unhappy start to the campaign continued with a three-one win at the Arena; a win which saw the visitors come from behind after Tom Richardson’s forty second minute spot kick gave the Blues a half time lead. Lewis Watson levelled eight minutes after the break, Pedro Carvalho got his second of the campaign on sixty six, and right at the end Matthew Wooldridge made quite sure of victory.

Basildon United picked up their first win of the campaign after scoring the only goal of the game against Hullbridge Sports. Daniel McCullock got that goal, twelve minutes from time, and left Sports still searching for their first point.
