Tuesday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

East Thurrock United moved into sixth place in the Ryman Premier and to within a point of fifth-placed Leiston after winning 3-1 at second-bottom VCD Athletic on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Tom Wraight gave the Rocks the lead on the half-hour mark but it wasn`t until the 58th minute that the visitors were able to double their advantage through Sam Higgins. Donovan Simmonds pulled one back for the hosts on 72 minutes but Wraight`s second nine minutes from time ensured there were no late scares for East Thurrock.

Tuesday's other game saw Metropolitan Police move level on points and to within a place of hosts Canvey Island after recording an ultimately comfortable 3-0 win at The Prospects Stadium.

It all fell apart for the Gulls in the second half after Rob Bartley broke the deadlock to put the Met in front nine minutes into the half. Joe Turner doubled the visitors` lead on the hour-mark and Leon Smith completed the scoring 19 minutes from time.
