Uhlsport Golden Gloves Awards- March 2024

By Ian Townsend

Here are the winners of latest Golden Gloves Awards- sponsored by the some of the best goalkeeping equipment in the world, provided by uhlsport

Remember, these awards are given on the basis of league matches only- and clubs must have played at least three of those to qualify!

Premier Division

New month, new destination- and our award for March is being delivered to Colston Avenue, home of play off chasing Carshalton Athletic. The Robins played five matches over the month, won four- including wins over fellow promotion chasers Chatham Town and Horsham- and kept clean sheets against the Chats and Margate, conceding only three goals; form which makes them the closest challengers to the current members of the top five club. Aaron Jones has been between the sticks, so our plaudits and our golden gloves go to Aaron and his mean defence.

North Division

Heybridge Swifts had a fabulous unbeaten March which saw them concede only two goals in five matches- and one of them was scored by title favourites Lowestoft Town, not that it did them a lot of good as Swifts scored two! Noah Phillips was between the sticks for four of those matches- including two clean sheets- whilst the other, a match against Felixstowe and Walton United which also brought a clean sheet, saw Joe Whitney keep goal. Congratulations to both keepers and their defence, but Noah will soon have a fine pair of gloves heading his way courtesy of uhlsport.

South Central Division

We’re off to Fetcham Grove- again! Our golden gloves award for February went Leatherhead’s way, and we’re off there again! March saw five matches, five wins, two clean sheets and three goals conceded- each of them no more than a consolation- with Met Police, Guernsey, Ashford Town, Binfield and South Park Reigate the victims. February saw three different keepers competing for one pair of golden gloves, but March is a great deal easier to predict, as Amadou Tangara was between the sticks for each match.

Congratulations to Amadou and his defence on their fine work.

South East Division

For the second month in a row, we’re heading to Oaklands Park and celebrating the work of the Chichester City backline- and keeper Kieran Magee.

Kieran’s four matches in March all ended with three points, and none of them saw the City keeper having to pick the ball out of the net, as Merstham, Horndean, Sheppey United and Lancing were comfortably defeated. City also defeated Burgess Hill Town without Kieran, so congratulations also to Giulio Girelli, who kept goal for that one! But, whilst this award is only for March, it would be remiss of us to neglect to mention that City haven’t conceded a goal for- as we write- eight hundred and forty nine minutes. The last time anyone managed a goal for an opponent was on February 3rd, when Omar Folkes scored for East Grinstead Town- not that it helped the Wasps much, given that City scored seven that day!

Many congratulations to Kieran and his superb defence.

Thanks to uhlsport for sponsoring our Golden Gloves awards.
