Wednesday Night Football

By Ian Townsend

We've matches in three Divisions, with home games for Cray Wanderers, Kingstonian, Grays Athletic, New Salamis, Bedfont Sports, Southall and Sutton Common Rovers.

We start our preview in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier, where we have two matches.

Bognor Regis Town will be looking to go level at the top of the table with a win at Cray Wanderers. The Rocks, who defeated Hornchurch at the weekend, will face a Wands side who fell to a narrow defeat at Billericay Town and will be hoping to pick up their first points of the season. Bognor picked up three points at Hayes Lane last season, but Wands won at Nyewood Lane- their only victory against Town in seven attempts.

At Tooting & Mitcham United’s Imperial Fields, new tenants Kingstonian will welcome Wingate & Finchley. Both sides started the campaign with a draw at the weekend, the K’s at Margate, the Blues against Lewes. The two matches between the sides last season ended in a win each. The K’s have won eleven of their last eighteen meetings, with five wins for the Blues.

We also have two matches in Pitching In Isthmian North. New Salamis, who had a fine start to their Isthmian career with a win at Gorleston at the weekend, welcome Brentwood Town to Coles Park, the Blues looking to add three points to the one they earned against Felixstowe. Grays Athletic started with a draw at Coggeshall Town, but will want to put some home points on the board. Maldon & Tiptree would just like some points, after their opening day fixture saw them lose to Tilbury. The two met at Parkside on the last day of last season, Athletic winning three-two on April 23rd.

Pitching In Isthmian South Central sees three sides who won at the weekend trying to hold onto their 100% records. Northwood are on the road to Bedfont Sports, whom they played three times last season, twice in the league and also in the Middlesex Cup. They took only one point from their league meetings, but did win the cup tie. Sports have won four of their six Isthmian League meetings.

Southall welcome Uxbridge, hoping to build on their fine win at Merstham, whilst their opponents would like to get a first win of the season after a draw against Hanworth Villa at the weekend. Sutton Common Rovers defeated Chipstead by the odd goal in seven, and welcome those Channel Islanders, Guernsey, to Whyteleafe. Rovers didn’t have much luck against the Green Lions last season, losing both matches with a five-one aggregate, but they look a stronger prospect this time out. The visitors drew at Thatcham Town last Saturday.
